In 1972, Golf & Country Club Schloss Pichlarn was founded as the 16th golf club in Austria and the second oldest golf facility in Styria – originally a 9-hole golf course, it was expanded to an 18-hole golf facility in 1985. To celebrate this anniversary in a fitting manner, the golf club organized an anniversary charity tournament for the benefit of Ukraine Aid and invited its members to a gala evening at the IMLAUER Hotel Schloss Pichlarn. The historic castle in the Styrian Enns Valley also opened for business 50 years ago in 1972 as a castle hotel.<\/p>\n

The Golf & Country Club Schloss Pichlarn (GCC Schloss Pichlarn) is one of the most beautiful and traditional courses in Europe. Nearly 400 members enjoy the game today amidst the magnificent mountain scenery of the Enns Valley. Still a 9-hole course when it opened in 1972, it was generously expanded to an 18-hole championship course in 1985. Donald Harradine, one of the pioneers of golf in Central Europe, is responsible for the design of the current 18-hole golf course. He used the hills, valleys and woods of the terrain and shaped them in a harmonious way to create a sporty, challenging and exceptionally scenic course. The opening of the 18-hole golf course in 1985 was attended by none other than the then reigning US Masters champion Bernhard Langer. Langer played the course record of 66 strokes, which stood for over 25 years and made GCC Schloss Pichlarn famous beyond the country’s borders.<\/p>\n

During the gala evening, President Mag. Friedrich Kaltenbrunner looked back on an eventful and successful 50-year history of the golf club and honored longstanding members and employees of the golf club during the festive event. Head-Pro Alan Mitchell and Golf Manager Johannes Baltl described the sporting highlights of the past decades by means of a picture tour.<\/p>\n

“We are all doing well and such a traditional golf club also has a social responsibility” the president emphasized in his speech and the more than 100 guests of the evening generously participated in filling a donation pot for the victims of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

A future-oriented highlight of the festive evening was the announcement of the joint qualitative orientation of the Castle Hotel and the Golf Club. The owner of the IMLAUER Hotel Schloss Pichlarn KR Georg Imlauer and President Mag. Friedrich Kaltenbrunner announced that the golf course is to be further developed and the inclusion in the Leading Golf Courses Austria will be strived for. This positive common direction was welcomed by the members with great applause.<\/p>\n<\/div>
